RESTORING A LOCAL ICON
Since 1947, Hickory Knoll Golf Course has been known for serving the Lake Villa community with their beautiful 9-hole golf course. When the Golf Course was first established, the military bases throughout the area would bus over military members to play a round of golf for only a NICKEL! We have come a long way since then and are currently undergoing a major redevelopment of the course.
We have 17 new sand traps, a new drainage system at 4 of the holes, and newly developed greens. Our mission is to restore Hickory Knoll Golf Course to its former glory days! We welcome Golfers of all skill levels, however, this newly redeveloped 9-hole course is best suited for those looking to improve their short game or shoot 20 over par handicap.
Did you Know...
Golf is one of the two only sports to be played on the moon. On February 6, 1967 Alan “Al” Bartlett Shepard, Jr. performed a one-handed swing with a six-iron, sending the ball flying through the moon’s low-gravity atmosphere. And in case you were wondering, javelin is the other sport that was reportedly played on the moon.
Despite the fact that Hickory Knoll Golf Course was built on hilly terrain, it's a great walking course with small greens that are medium in speed. The fairways are wide and generous, and no water hazards come into play.
Family History
Hickory Knoll Golf Course is a local legend for those in the Lake Villa Community. Many in the community grew up playing on this course and may now look forward to returning with their own Children or Grandchildren. The former owners, the Gernhardt Family, serviced this community for many years. We only hope to continue their legacy and restore a piece of history to its former glory.
